Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality has amended the rules of using Helicopter for transporting climbing and expedition’s material above Syangboche. The local Government stated the amendments was the part of 1st amendments to Base Camp Management Procedure of 2024.
The Municipality has stated the materials must not be carried by helicopter, instead use local workers, yaks and jopke. This move was to support the local economy via expedition activities.
However the rule has been modified as per the situation, with the permission from the committee and in their coordination, Heli can transport the necessities.
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality has also imposed the rule of bringing human waste back from mountains while expedition, which will be enforced starting from this Climbing season 2024.
Everest region gets hundreds of foreign climbers every year to conquer the highest mountain, as it is considered as a haven for mountain climbing.
